What is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is an enlargement of the glandular tissue of the male breast. This condition mostly occurs during puberty or in middle-aged to older men due to changes in the endocrine system which lead to an increase in the ratio of estrogens to androgens. Pubertal gynecomastia will resolve itself in 75% of cases within two years but for sufferers of post-pubertal gynecomastia, the issues of living with a pronounced chest can be mentally draining.

What can I do about my ‘man-boobs’?

Gynecomastia affects people in different ways, pictured below is a grade scale showing the levels of severity of the condition.

Diet & Exercise

This should be your first mode of alleviating your symptoms of gynecomastia. Whilst in bad cases a defined lump will never be fixed through this method alone, diet and exercise can help to get rid of the stubborn fat around your chest and make the area less pronounced.

Compression Garments

In most cases of gynecomastia, a compression vest or shirt can be very effective in hiding your gynecomastia and allows sufferers to live their day to day life without worry of how their chest looks in a certain t-shirt or shirt. As our compression wear is discreet, it’s unable to be seen under most garments and is light and comfortable enough to be forgotten about by the wearer too.

Surgical Treatment

The only way to permanently be rid of gynecomastia is to surgically remove the enlarged gland. However, not only is it an expensive procedure, but it is not guaranteed to produce satisfactory results. The surgeon must be highly skilled in gynecomastia specific surgery as to not remove too much of the gland or the nipple can cave inwards or to not remove too little so the chest is still pronounced.
